Fashion Week Updates :: Fiona's Day 3 in NYC

Connie and I at NY Library (working hard)

I ended up not being able to get a tour of Teen Vogue; instead we went straight to the Costello Tagliapietra show which was probably one of my favorites so far, besides Yigal Azrouel. I had a relatively decent seat, the music was good, the models were good and there was free Budweiser (their sponsor), and of course the clothes were good too. The dresses were pleated and draped beautifully, the jodhpur arms were dramatic enough, the color palette was neutral but not boring and the detailed backs were a pleasant surprise. Costello and Tagliapietra stuck to doing what they're good at and did it extremely well.

After the show, we ran over to the tents for the
Academy of Art show, which I had fourth row seating for- in the giant auditorium BCBG was in. I was excited for this show because student designers are not *yet* obligated to sell their clothing and make money, so they generally are willing to take more risks and experiment with their designs. I did find myself a little disappointed as the collections were pretty similar and a bit too cohesive for my taste. I was, however, very impressed with the variety of materials each designer used -- the clothes were clearly made extremely well. The use of models was also very impressive: Anja Rubik, Chanel Iman, Sean Opry, Myf Shepherd, Hyoni Kang, Liu Wen, and Karlie Kloss (who was very fierce). As I was leaving, I also ran into UC Berkeley alumni Steven Lai who collaborated on the Britex Fabrics Project and also spied Leanne Marshall from Project Runway in the front row.

As soon as the Academy of Art show ended, we ran to the
Chictopia Party at Le Royale. The music was good, the party was popping and I saw a lot of Chictopians. We left for a bit to a top secret Shipley and Halmos party which turned out to be pretty bizarre, and ended the night eating fries and macaroni and cheese at Mercer Kitchen.

Solid day.
