While pop stars might often wear clothing that is considered outlandish or even questionable their styles without a doubt have a strong influence on fashion designers and young women all around the world. While I admit that I have a minor obsession with a multitude of “pop divas” there is one who stands out as a trendsetter in both the pop music and the fashion scene: Kylie Minogue. While her presence is not as widely known in the United States as say Britney Spears or Madonna, her fan base extends around the globe where she plays sold out arena tours and is the current spokesperson for Spanish diamond company, Tous. She recently was part of a beautiful ad campaign Tous, directed by famed fashion photographer Ellen Von Unwerth (see photo above).
Kylie is known for her stage spectacles that include elaborate stage designs, choreography, and costume design. Although her tours sell out throughout Europe, Asia, South America, and Australia, she has never before toured in the United States. Luckily for us Yankees, Kylie has finally decided to appease her (predominantly gay) fan base by embarking on a six-city North American tour, beginning September 30 at the Fox Theater in our neighbor city of Oakland. If you will be returning to Berkeley this fall and are interested in wonderful pop music and beautiful costumes, I highly recommend buying a ticket. Tickets go on sale to the public this Saturday, May 16 at the Fox Theater Box Office and all Ticketmaster outlets.
