Scarlett Johansson has a signature style comparable to that of a 40's femme fatale. With her curled mane and bright red lips, she definitely sets herself apart as one of Hollywood’s most distinguished faces. Yet it is her vintage-chic sense of fashion that grabbed the attention of designers such as Dolce & Gabbana and has given her the role of sexy siren in almost every movie she has been in. Many of the pieces she wears, especially in her ads, are lingerie-inspired pieces that capture the flirty and feminine aspect of this star’s personality.

Yet there is a risk one must take in following Ms. Johansson’s footsteps: taking things from flirty to the over-sexed, “Moulin Rouge” look. The main thing one must be wary of when trying to use underwear as outerwear is balance. There’s nothing wrong with having a wide selection of lacey silk tops and skirts, but never match like with like. A great example is to match a corset top with a plain high-waist pencil skirt (knee length please; otherwise, you will look like a Pussycat Doll) and a blazer. Or if you want to dress it down a bit, get a pair of leggings with a loose silk blouse and a cardigan. The goal is to have one aspect of your outfit that is a little sexy paired with more plain pieces. Less is always more, and if you follow this rule you will be able to have outfits that will really pop (in the right way).
