Three looks from Givenchy's Resort 2011 Collection. Image source.
Givenchy has always been a particular favorite of mine due to founder Hubert de Givenchy’s history designing for Audrey Hepburn. To me, the brand’s work has always been classic and timeless. The Resort 2011 Collection is no different. I feel that this collection was the most diverse: it includes pieces that appease both conservative and eccentric dressers alike. The interesting textures play up the palette of black, white, and red, with some animal print added for pizzazz. My favorite pieces are the jackets, particularly the tailored leopard print blazer. The flared out cut on the bottom make it perfect to throw onto some basics and take any outfit from simply cute to couture.
There is a religious aesthetic that is added to many of the pieces with its high collars and tiered gowns. My personal favorite is the white dress trimmed with red lace. It gives off the feel of a 1970’s sundress meets a bishop’s vestments, but in a good way. Also, I am a fan of the short skirt covered by full length chiffon fabric, a style that I have seen a few celebrities wearing on the red carpet. Givenchy definitely delivered a collection that would make the late Ms. Hepburn proud.
