Cal Street Style :: Penny

Dog Days Are Over” by Florence + The Machine is the most played song in Penny’s music library. The vibrant and serendipitous elements of the song can be found in Penny’s style.

Clad in a J. Crew shirt, white capris, a belt and sandals, Penny stayed true to her personal fashion M.O.—subtlety and comfort.

Penny is certainly a bright character. A native Australian and musician (she plays the piano), her individual style articulates the warmth of her personality. She chose to wear the shirt for its neckline and asymmetrical design. Unlike other floral prints that can be quite loud, Penny appreciated the calm, yet not understated, design that is reminiscent of the Aboriginal patterns of her native country.

The white capris serve as a nice color compliment to the navy shirt and help make the J. Crew offering more shapely, as it is not originally form-fitting. Her belt is a fantastic finishing touch that pulls the whole piece together.

It is certainly contemporary, but Penny’s outfit also has hints of the 70s fashion that most recently served as the inspiration for many collections that graced the NYFW runway.

Describing her outfit as comfortable and summery, Penny created a simple ensemble that is both practical and chic. While the days of summer are now the days of yore, the mercury still rises. Penny’s look suits the weather—and her—pristinely.
