I love to eat, and I love to shop. Gluttony may be considered one of the seven sins, but when it's for a good cause...well, I think all can be forgiven. The Edible Schoolyard, brainchild of the brilliant Alice Waters (ground-breaking chef behind Chez Panisse), has partnered with Levi's to introduce a line of t-shirts which are sure to make your tummy rumble. Not one to do anything by halves, Waters has enlisted the help of her incredibly talented friends -- Sofia Coppola (cinema god), Dave Eggers (literary god), David Byrne (music god), and Maira Kalman (illustration god) -- and asked each one to contribute a design for her 100% organic t-shirts. The shirts go on sale August 24th, in select Levi's shops around the country and on levi.com, but for those foodies who absolutely idolize Alice Waters, you'll get a chance to meet the genius in-person at a special "school lunch" she's hosting on Maiden Lane (between Grant Avenue and Stockton Street) the same day. All that's asked is a $5-$10 donation, and for such a great cause, that hardly seems like enough. Trust me, I know -- I've worked in an Edible Schoolyard kitchen, and nothing comes close to the joy of helping a couple of kids cook a good, nutritious meal.
Don't want to buy a t-shirt? That's ok! (Although I think you must be crazy not to want one. Who doesn't love pie?!) You can still make a donation to the Edible Schoolyard Program by visiting their website! Click away!
