It seems as though one of the most surprising shows to come from New York this week was Diane von Furstenburg’s. I was thoroughly impressed with her line! Simple and chic, she really switched up her usual game of bold prints and patterns. There were a few cute puzzle prints, but what really stole the show was the clean cut of the clothes and the to-die-for colors.
Victoria Beckham’s line followed a similar suit of being very crisp, yet for her the only thing I have to say is, “Why so serious?” Sure, she threw in some bold reds, but the majority of her collection was full of neutrals, which, don’t get me wrong, are always flattering, but at a fashion show the clothes are what should be fun and flirty, not your hot husband watching in the first row.
I am definitely one for a little pop of color, especially in the wake of the drab of winter, but the teal-and-fuchsia, rose-and-red, and magenta-and-mustard combos made me feel like spring had really started blooming. My only critique was that I would have preferred more feminine pants instead of the loose trouser-cut that was featured, but a little androgyny never hurt anyone, right? The hint of sparkle from the sequined tops that were paired with these manly bottoms said anything but “unflattering”.
However, a word for the wise, if you are trying to imitate this trend, I would say go for it, but don’t get too crazy. Remember that the color wheel is your friend, and that even if bright yellow and lime green leopard pants looked awesome in the latest “Party Rock” video, you aren’t getting paid millions like LMFAO to look crazy. So, I have compiled a list of must-haves to kick-start this season that almost anyone can do who is looking to brighten up their wardrobe (and odds are, you probably already have at least one of these items!):
- A pair of colored jeans - there is literally almost every single color being produced right now, so find which one best suits you and voila! Instant success.
- A bright purse - I personally found love when I got a Liz Claiborne patent leather yellow bag a few years ago, and I haven’t abandoned it yet (cheap and chic)! Go for something with minimal prints and logos (remember, you want the color to do the talking), and you’ll never regret this smart and fashionable buy!
- Shoes in a fun print - I love wearing a funky pattern with a solid bright color, but again I don’t like to get too crazy. Which is why I feel like some funky shoes add the perfect touch! Whether it’s leopard, snakeskin, or croc, animal print shoes will add texture and pizzazz to your already amazing look.
And there you have it! Instant style a la the latest NY trends!
