A Night to Remember

Summer is in full swing - school is out, grades are final, and everyone is making a beeline for the coast. And what says summer than an evening concert admist the stars and a cool breeze?

All four bands posing for a group photo after the show.

Within the midst of major music festivals, it’s nice to visit a smaller venue with a few friends and just enjoy the night. This past Friday, the House of Blues in Downtown Disney was just that. Playing host to what can only be called a true punk scene with undercuts, skinny jeans and “bro” tanks not in short supply, I looked forward to hearing new and older material from the Young Statues, The Swellers, The Wonder Years, and The Early November who headlined.

The Swellers gearing up a crowd to mob it out.

Not disappointing, the bands encouraged a rowdy crowd with lyrics of teen angst, rebellion, and long summer nights - truly a night made for the young and energetic. It of course doesn’t hurt having the ambience and intimacy of the House of Blues stage to make your sound that much better!

The headliner's The Early November truly get an ecstatic reation from the crowd as they come on stage.

While The Swellers and The Wonder Years offered plenty of the typical “head-bangers” type punk, The Early November offered a more subtle sound with softer acoustics closing the night on a mellow note. But perhaps my favorite of the night was the upcoming opener – Young Statues. With more of an indie-rock outfit and a unique vocal range, Young Statues would be a perfect pairing with bands like Young the Giant or Neon Trees, and they certainly caught my attention as a band to look out for.

The Wonder Years thanking their fans after an impressive set.

Of course I didn’t leave without getting myself some standard memorabilia - a sweater with The Wonder Years’ mascot Hank the Pigeon on front and Young Statues debut album in hand, I left quite satisfied with the nights events!

Here are some samples from each of the bands lineup from the event:

Young Statues – Young Statues

The Swellers – Sleepers

The Wonder Years – Came Out Swinging

The Early November – Baby Blue
